Philippine Children Research Network

A multidisciplinary community of researchers committed to advancing the conduct and application of research on policies and programs designed to champion the rights of children in the Philippines.

Background

The 2024 Situationer on Children published by UNICEF underscores persistent barriers that prevent many Filipino children from fully realizing their rights, particularly in health, education, and protection. Emerging and intersecting challenges, including mental health concerns, online safety risks, and the growing impacts of climate change, further threaten their wellbeing and long term development. At the same time, existing research and data on children remain fragmented, limiting the ability of policymakers and practitioners to design coordinated, evidence based responses. In response to these gaps, the Philippine Children Research Network (PCRN) has been established as a national collaborative platform that convenes scholars, researchers, policymakers, advocates, development practitioners, and children themselves. The PCRN will strengthen the generation, sharing, and translation of child focused research into actionable knowledge that informs inclusive policies, responsive programs, and sustainable solutions that advance the rights and wellbeing of children in the Philippines.

Our First Year Goals

In its inaugural year (September 2025 to August 2026), PCRN will:

  1. Constitute the Steering Committee that will provide strategic direction, oversee PCRN’s activities, and ensure transparency and accountability in its operations
  2. Conduct training workshops on research involving children
  3. Launch research fellowships on children, providing ₱200,000 in support for each fellow, and
  4. Publish PSSC’s One Social Science Journal’s focusing on selected NSSC11 papers on children.

All of these initiatives are designed to put children’s voices at the center of evidence and action.
